Was there a "degradation" in talented Keyboardists, after the 70s, due to Technology.?

It makes sense that with the evolution of the keyboard, a lot of players would arrive to play easy instruments without much talent. What I don't get is why there was a demand at all for a lot of 80's music. The 90's saw a revival of instrumentation and a move away from keyboards and synths, but not a lot of good players emerged. In the 70's, you had plenty of prog rock bands with fantastic piano and keyboard players. There's not many around now. Yes, it is a bit sad.
