Do many Christians mistakenly think that rejecting science is what Jesus wants them to do?

Many Christians, especially Christians with at least a high school education, know that the evidence presented by science is simply undeniable. But they see their fellow Christians denying it all anyway to maintain belief in the absurd myths ociated with Christian dogma. The instinct for people to go along with their social group is very strong and is this instinct more powerful than their knowledge that most Christian myths are impossible? Do these Christians think that denying science is just another bizarre and pointless ritual involved with Christianity? You’ve got to admit, creationism has become very ritualized, right; it’s a ritualized denial of rock solid science?
