How to backup from my dead windows pc?

My windows 7 is not booting. It shows Clpnp.sys error . I dont know why it is showing this. So now I think only the way to get rid off frm this error is it to reinstall windows. but I have only one partition in comp and all of data is saved into it. So If I do reinstall of windows I will have to format my that unique drive and with which I will lose my all data. So Is there any way to make a backup of my data from that dead Laptop? It has 500gb harddisk and free about 200 gb. I think it would be easy If I install any other Os which will not format my drive and then by making a new partition frm that os I will transfer my all data to that new partition. and after that will format my old partion and install Windows on it. But dont know which os to install and which software to use to divide my drive into partitions.
